Caring For Cork Camino Challenge on iDonate

A major fundraising drive in aid of three Cork charities has reached over half of its target with communities, businesses and GAA clubs coming together in support of the cause.

A total of €37,000 of the Caring for Cork fundraising goal of €60,000 has been met and the challenge has been extended until September to allow more communities to get involved.

The funds raised will be split evenly between the three charities CUH Charity Cork University Hospital, Marymount Hospice and Cork Simon Community.

Funds raised for CUH Charity will go toward the provision of a wide range of life-changing and life-saving equipment, facilities and services to patients attending the hospitals.

Marymount University Hospital & Hospice, which is celebrating 150 years, will use the funds to provide care for people with life-limiting illness through hospice services, and Cork Simon Community will continue to support vulnerable men and women from all walks of life who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Local GAA clubs have also got involved and CField Construction organised a day out in Coachford which saw suppliers, friends and neighbours show up to take part in either a 5km or 10km walk from Coachford GAA Club, or a 50km or 100km cycle in aid of all three charities.

“It has far exceeded our expectations. €37,000 has been pledged, €27,000 on the iDonate page and a bunch of cheques too,” said Mr O’Brien.
