Connaught women launch raffle to support school friend’s treatment for rare cancer

A GROUP of women from Connaught have launched a fundraising raffle to help their college friend, Laura Gilmore Anderson (34), to raise much needed funds to allow her continue life-changing treatment after receiving an untreatable cancer diagnosis.
Laura hails from Co. Longford and she and her former classmates Sandra Dillon (Ballintubber), Vicky Meehan (Lahardane), Linda Gruddy (Belmullet), Liona Carter (Swinford), Cathy Moran (Westport), Aoife Feeney (Castlebar), Tara McGovern (Leitrim), Sarah McWalter (Galway) and Laura Mooney (Roscommon) all met while studying in IT Sligo.
Laura, married and living in Edinburgh, was told in July 2020, after three years of misdiagnosis, that she had a rare and incurable neuroendocrine tumour in her pancreas.
She underwent chemotherapy but it did not have the desired effect she had hoped for.
Laura has since travelled to Mexico with funds kindly raised through her Go Fund Me campaign under the team at Hope4Cancer and she is now back in Edinburgh continuing her treatments from home.
Laura wishes to return to Mexico later this year to continue on this path to healing and her friends want to try and raise as much funds as possible to ease her burden.
A live raffle draw will take place on August 28 and there are some amazing prizes up for grabs, including a wedding video package, soccer match tickets, hotel stays, hampers, afternoon teas and much more, with up to 40 chances to win. (A full list is available on the idonate website).
The friends say they have been blown away with the generosity of all who have donated prizes for this wonderful cause. Community spirit is still well and truly alive in Ireland.
Tickets are €10 each, three for €20 or 10 for €50.
